Discovering Montferrato

Tenuta Gambarello is in Mombello Monferrato, in the Cerrina Valley, a few kilometres from Casale, in the heart of the Montferrato area. The small town of Mombello is built on a gentle hill side, opposite the Sacred Mount of Crea and its monastery – which has 23 chapels – is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Located on one of the highest points of the Monferrato area, it enjoys spectacular panoramic views of the surrounding hills and the Alps.

The territory’s history dates back to the 2nd-3rd century AD, when the Romans settled on the left bank of the Stura stream. Between the 6th and 7th century AD, the Longobards settled not far from the Tenuta Gambarello estate, in fact, an interesting Roman-Longobard archaeological site was found in the area known as Mulino Nuovo.
